New York Knicks Advance to Second Round of Playoffs
Cavaliers Drop Game 5, Series Ends in 4-1 Knicks Victory
Ricky Rubio's Career Night Not Enough to Stop New York
NEW YORK, N.Y. - The New York Knicks have advanced to the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs after defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 106-95 in Game 5 on Wednesday night.
Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 23 points, while RJ Barrett added 21 points. Julius Randle also chipped in 19 points and 13 rebounds for New York.
The Cavaliers were led by Ricky Rubio, who scored a career-high 37 points in his first game back since suffering a knee injury in December. Darius Garland added 17 points and Jarrett Allen contributed 15 points and 16 rebounds.
The Knicks took control of the game in the second quarter, outscoring the Cavaliers 34-19 to take a 58-43 lead at the half. New York extended its lead to 20 points in the third quarter and never looked back.
The Cavaliers, who were the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference, were unable to overcome the Knicks' size and physicality. New York was also able to take advantage of Cleveland's lack of depth, as the Cavaliers played with just eight players in Game 5.
With the win, the Knicks advance to the second round of the playoffs, where they will face the No. 2-seeded Philadelphia 76ers.
